Apsley House Care Home, our gold standard nursing home in Sussex, recently had the pleasure of welcoming some very special visitors to take part in a therapy session. This therapy session had a very significant twist however - it was an animal therapy session courtesy of the lovely team at Wild Science.
This may seem a little unorthodox however studies have shown that animal assisted therapy can have very beneficial results for those who participate. The positive effects that it can have on individuals include improvements in motor skills & joint movement, self esteem and verbal communications as well as lessening the effects of depression, loneliness and anxiety.
Our residents were joined by Robbie the Rabbit, Charlie the Chinchilla, Gwen the Guinea Pig, Coco the Corn Snake, Tilly the Thai Water Dragon and Toby the Tree Frog. Although some were treated with a little more apprehension than others - we’ll leave you to guess which ones(!) - after the initial wariness wore off everybody had a fantastic time getting to know their new friends. Under the supervision of the Wild Science team each resident had the chance to enjoy some one-on-one time with the animals while learning some fascinating facts and information about each of them.
The Apsley House Care Home staff and residents are very thankful to the Wild Science company for making the trip to their care home in Bognor and given the impeccable behaviour of their small visitors they are welcome them back at any time. Visit the Royal Bay Facebook Page for some pictures of our residents getting up close and personal with Robbie, Charlie, Tilly & co.
