At this time of year, weather conditions can be difficult. The rain, snow, frost and everything else that winter brings certainly results in the great British outdoors becoming a little less inviting. Fortunately Apsley House Care Home is one of the warmest, most welcoming residential care homes in West Sussex with fresh, delicious meals prepared for our residents daily. Sadly our local bird population don’t get to enjoy the same privilege. Winter is a tough time of year for them due to the scarcity of food and cold conditions. Recently though our residents were more than happy to provide some assistance to our feathered friends.
This assistance arrived in the form of homemade, bird-friendly fat cakes! Our residents had a fantastic time getting their hands dirty in order to create some tasty treats for our winged neighbours. A concoction including nuts, seeds and fruit was mixed together to form healthy & hearty snacks which were set outside, providing the locals birds a little extra help to endure the winter weather.
They proved to be very popular with all of the flying visitors to our garden, as well as a few squirrels who also decided to help themselves! Our residents loved getting to watch the increased flurry of activity outside their windows. Visit the Royal Bay Facebook Page for some wonderful photos of the fat cake making process as well as shots of the finished products.
